The Beechworth Granite Classic is an annual weekend event held every April in the Northern Victorian town of Beechworth. The event features a Handmade Bike Show, a Friday night ride, and three different rides on Saturday (45km, 90km, and 115km), followed by a recovery ride on Sunday morning. Saturday night includes a dinner hosted by Mitch Docker (known from Life in the Peloton) and a Bicycle Film Festival with multiple screenings throughout the weekend.
Beechworth is a paradise for gravel enthusiasts. The event is not timed, making it a podium-free affair. However, those at the front still compete for bragging rights. Enjoy the ride at a leisurely pace, with four feed stops offering treats like donuts from the famous Beechworth Bakery, Free Time Beer, locally brewed whisky, and pickle juice, along with the usual fruit cakes, bananas, and jelly snakes. Additionally, local musicians are scattered along the course, playing everything from sweet cello music, drummers having a battle of the drums from both sides of the road to heavy metal at full volume on an electric bass guitar.
Participants from Easts included Greg Rule, Stuart McDougall, Jen Benson, Bevan and Louis Towning, Avril Swan, and former member Chris McKnight (now a Beechworth local).
This is an event not to be missed, so mark your calendar for next year!
