Friendship forged in the bunch leads to the world championship stage

Sydney-based athletes and Easts members Kim Lueck and Ian Gardiner are heading to Chicago in June to compete at the HYROX World Championships, after winning HYROX Auckland Mixed Doubles 40-49. Both have deep endurance roots — Ian as an Oxford Boat Race winner, national AU 3km pursuit cycling champ & AU NRS Cycling team, Albion Cycling, and triathlete; Kim as an American collegiate volleyballer, world-level triathlete and decorated Trek national team cyclist (AU & USA).
The two met through Frank’s Squad and ride with Easts Cycling Club, where mutual respect and shared grit inspired their powerful partnership now charging for the world stage.
Off the course, Ian is a venture capitalist and family man and friend to many whilst Kim is a sales & marketing leader with a loyal heart & curious mind. Together, they’re redefining what it means to compete at the top — not just with speed and strength, but with lifelong character, connection, and grit.
Good luck Ian and Kim. We’ll all be cheering for you 💪
