Nine Easts riders set off from Wisemans Ferry, on a route that twisted through St Albans, Upper Macdonald, and Webbs Creek, with barely a car in sight to interrupt the rhythm of the ride.
Stuart McDougall, Bevan Towning, Greg Rule, Jen Benson, Doug Perkins, Phil Noller, Brendan Mason, and Paul Bours formed a peloton of grit and good humour. Spirits were high, legs were strong, and the gravel—oh, the gravel—was perfect.
A young magpie, clearly in training for swooping season, made a dramatic flyby but missed its mark every time. Bevan raced ahead crossing the river three times ending up with wet feet and a sandy bike until Greg chased him down and got him to turn around.
It was one of those rare days where the weather, the company, and the terrain all conspired to create something unforgettable, a perfect ride through the heart of the Hawkesbury.
